SKiPSWEB EST. 2001 / 25 YEARS

The archive

25 years of SKiPSWEB.
The evolution.

From a Flash intro built in FrontPage to the site you are reading now. Every screenshot below is a real browser rendering a real Internet Archive capture — nothing here is a recreation.

How to read this page. Each frame is a screenshot taken by a real browser pointed at the Internet Archive's copy of that page. Select any screenshot to open it full size, then use the arrow keys to move between them. "View the archived page" opens the original capture on web.archive.org, where you can click around the site as it was.

The earliest surviving capture

A Microsoft FrontPage page whose entire content was a Macromedia Flash 4 movie, index.swf. What you see here is the Internet Archive's Flash emulator failing to load it — which is, in 2026, the honest state of a 2001 Flash homepage.

Incomplete capture — index.swf — the Flash movie that was the whole page; the archive's emulator cannot fetch it. The archive holds the page, but the browser can no longer draw it.

“No two web sites are the same”

The pitch, already fully formed five months in: “Take your time and browse our portfolio. You will find that no two web sites are the same. We take care to ensure that every website we design is unique and reflects the personality and style of every one of our clients.” Twenty-five years later that is still the argument.

Incomplete capture — the masthead banner and a footer graphic, which the archive did not capture. The archive holds the page, but the browser can no longer draw it.

A full agency site appears

Nine-item navigation — Design, Hosting, Packages, Portfolio, Photos, Maintenance, Contact Us, Links — and the line that still defines the business: “Hi My name is Skip and I design websites for escorts in Chicago.”

The design page

“Your graphic designer should be friendly and genuinely interested in working with you to create a beautiful and functional website that portrays your unique personality and style.”

Back, in Flash

“Skipsweb. Escort Website Design.” The page asks for a newer Adobe Flash Player; its meta generator tag reads “FW 8 DW 8 HTML” — Fireworks 8 and Dreamweaver 8.

Published rates, in full

A complete rate card and a mission statement: “To provide you with a quality website within a couple of days. To provide you support and guidance.” Archival pricing — not current.

A search engine, not a studio

skipsweb.com relaunches as a review search and directory with email and phone lookup — the direct ancestor of the data platform the business runs today.

Then / now

The same business, the same person, the same clients — fourteen years apart. Drag the handle, or focus it and use the arrow keys.

Where this came from, and what was left out

The Internet Archive holds 6,681 successful captures of skipsweb.com between 2001 and today. The frames above were selected to show each distinct design, not every capture.

Two things were deliberately excluded. The directory-era pages from 2015–2017 published thousands of third-party email addresses and phone numbers; none of that is reproduced here, and the two frames from that era were captured at a shorter viewport so they stop above the advertising. Client sites from the 2002 portfolio are not shown at all, because the people behind them never agreed to appear on this page.

Prices and testimonials visible inside any screenshot were true on the capture date and are not current. For what things cost now, ask.

Twenty-five years of this. Yours is next.

Whatever era your current site belongs to, it can be brought forward — and you will not lose your domain, your rankings or your content doing it.

You will be talking to the developer.

Not an account manager, not a reseller, not a chatbot. The person who replies to your message is the person who builds and maintains the site — and who has been doing it for this industry since 2001.
